What did New Jersey do to deserve this? Did Chris Christie make a pact with the devil? Did the douchebags from the Jersey Shore make Zuffa feel bad for the rest of us? or was it the last main event in that building was Kimbo v. James Thompson’s Ear that got Zuffa to feel for us? Is it just a case of timing that we are probably getting TWO title fights on the same card? Oh wait a minute , I got it. Newark, NJ is a stones throw from the capital of the world, New York City. A city with the worlds most famous arena, that isn’t sanctioned to hold a mixed martial event, instead they get the Knicks.
I believe the Dana should have his own Walk Out T-shirt for this event of his bald face smiling while he stuffs dollar bills into our new governors fat ass while they are both sticking out their tongues with the caption, “take that New York!” And lets face it, that is the only reason this caliber of card is going to be in Newark and not New York. Zuffa wants to make sure Albany can actually see tons of people taking mass transit through the tunnels and over the bridges to spend hundreds of dollars on the UFC.
So we will Possibly the best P4P fighter on the planet in GSP defend his title against a very game Dan Hardy as well as the interim HW title fight pitting Frank Mir against Shane Carwin. Wow. Shane is strong and can throw a punch, not to mention I hear he is a pretty good wrestler. Frank just put on 20 lbs of muscle and from what I’ve heard has got a good ground game too. This should be quite a fight that has the possibility of being a 5 round classic.
The rest fot he card should also be an homage to some great fighters from the Garden State, First off making his welterweight debut willbe Ricardo Almeida. A BJJ black belt under Renzo Gracie will be a big WW but still needs to work alot on his stand up, so I don’t think we will see him facing off against Alves. My sources say so but who knows. Next we have Frankie Edgar, I’m saying now to Joe Silva give him Kenny Florian. Maynard is most likely getting the next shot at BJ Penn’s LW title. Given he wins his fight against Diaz. New Jersey is also home to Batman, no, not Christian Bale, but Kurt Pellegrino. He is finally healthy and should get a top tier LW. I say Tyson Griffin or G. Tibau. What say you? Let’s not forgot our fighting brothers, Dan and Jim. I’m sure they are willing to knock down Joe Silva’s door to get on a card in their home state as well. Did I forget anyone? If I did, my bad.
I’d just like to thank New York for being really slow on the uptake for legalizing MMA so New Jersey can reap the benefits. I guess I should thank Zuffa as well for wanting to show off to albany as well. Way to go! Hopefully the smell from Elizabeth won’t be too bad!!! Yes can’t wait til this fight takes place. The arena is wonderful and what a fight card. Mir look so powerful and awesome in his last fight. The 20 lbs of muscle made a difference from the Lesnor fight. New York is slow but that’s ok, NJ already benefits from both the Jets and Giants playing at the meadowlands. Not kidding about Christie the tax revenues will help the large gap of a budjet deficit. Can’t picture him as a fan but you never know. Kudos to Newark for hosting-lots of money to make. March will definitely be exciting to the MMA fans out there. This makes my skin tingle with excitement and for a person my age that is a miracle. Old and grey (well at least without hair color) but I do love the MMA.

Aw, this was a really quality post. In theory I’d like to write like this too – taking time and real effort to make a good article… but what can I say… I procrastinate alot and never seem to get something done.

This is a awesome post, the tickets are already sold out for the event and they only went on sale a few days ago. I wanted to go, but it does not look like I will get a chance to.
Hopefully David Paterson is finally going to make the final push to get the UFC and MMA into New York finally. So MTA workers and Lawyers no longer have to brawl in the Bronx in illegal events.
